When I first stumbled upon Dead to me, I never expected to like the show quite as much as I do now, if you haven’t seen the first season for some reason, make sure to do so asap and catch up, because season two is now available for streaming on Netflix and it is everything and more.
For those of you who are familiar with the show already and consider yourselves fans of it, you won’t let me lie, this second season is very emotional to say the least, filled with drama, tears (lots of them) and lots of triangles of situations, or better yet, a whole network of them that has spiraled out of control by now, making, I dare say, everyone’s expectations met and surpassed (at least it did mine).
Spoilers ahead, consider yourself warned.
This season picks up were it left of at the end of season one, with Jen covering up for the unfortunate event of that night when Steve came up to her house asking for Judy. Jen is quite distraught and the memories from that night haunt her frequently making her even more miserable than she was before. With all of that on her plate, she also finds out by word of her annoying neighbor that she may not have covered her tracks just as well as she thought and she finds herself in quite the pickle.
After coming clean with Judy, Later they both realize that the worst of their troubles are not yet behind and now they will need to be closer than ever and work as one, as Jen discovers that Steve has a “semi” identical twin brother that Judy never mentioned, which complicates things just a bit.
Things get quite complicated with the appearance of Steve’s twin brother “Ben”, who turns out to be quite his opposite, he is quite charming and easy going, but he is there because Steve’s family is looking for him thinking he has gone missing. As the guilt builds up inside Jen she realized she cant possibly live that way and how much she risked by the allowing herself to be taken by her impulses on that particular night when she killed Steve.
On top of everything, Jen is dealing with her teenage son “Charlie”, who is not only driven by his teenage impulses but is also more aware of what goes on around him and starts confronting Jen about it and taking matters in his own hands. During one of his episodes he come across an important peace of evidence, that at the time he doesn’t know about, bit this forces Jen to take care of it by burning it down and paying of the girl Charlie was trying to impress in the first place.
The show goes on unraveling and tangling this intricate network of interconnected details and people that only seem to be getting more and more caught up as the episodes go by and unraveling a few details on their way.
All of this un seemingly interconnected people and details feed up the intense drama during this season, as a lot of unexpected things happen, both good and bad, leading to a series of unfortunate events that in some cases ease things up, but in many other only complicate things even more.
After only 10 short and packed episodes the season comes to an end leaving the audience expectant for what’s to come on the third season.
Needless to say the show is excellent, extremely well thought out and brilliantly produced overall. The performances by all actors, but specially the leads, Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini and James Marsden are marvelous, they showed an amazing range and mastering of their skills.
This is a definite must watch, so go ahead and watch it at your leisure. Here’s a trailer so you have a visual aid:
