A Simple Approach

Giambattista Valli brings joy and high spirits to day 1 of haute couture week, saying “Happy times are never going to be démodé”.  Happy times are never going to be out of fashion, says Valli, who seems to be inspired by nature and happiness itself during the virtual launch of this collection due to the Covid-19 crisis, but Valli does not seem flustered by the pandemic, instead, feels challenged (in a good way), saying “If they’re coming to me, they want the best of me”.  Battista surely delivered his best, a beautiful collection, where opulence and exuberance are seamless traits; voluminous silk tulle and faille gowns and pleated taffeta dresses with big bows and long trains, along with a full face covering (Valli’s own take on the now mandatory face mask and perhaps the new it fashion accessory), are the featured masterpieces on display.  Modeled by Joan Smalls, this 18 piece collection resembles the beauty and youthfulness of nature and freedom and reminds us of that b...

Simplicity, chic, layering, volume, embroidery, sophistication and femininity. Those are the words to describe Valli's most recent couture collection. It started off with simple, retro, light and bright colored little dresses with layered, volumed details, shortly followed by wide short dresses, above the knee length with embroidered details that popped up the designs to life. Then came the small tule capes and the cross over dresses along with the fairy, boho looking dresses.

Remember the days when couture meant very extravagant, practically non wearable, super avant-garde garments? …Ah the good all days… well those days are gone! I won’t lie I’m a little sad because during the old couture shows you got to see what was really inside the designers heads.
