Great Places to Eat In Roatán | Recommended By A Local

As a local living on the island; one of the most frequent questions I get asked by friends, visitors and tourists all the time, is: what are some great places to eat out on the island?

I am Honduran and I have been living on the island for the past five years now, so I guess you can say that the following, is a well curated and comprehensive list of places to eat at.

Disclaimer
This is not a "street food" guide or a list of cheap places to eat, as I am not a part taker in that "genre" of culinary experiences. The list is not necessarily a "bougie" list or restaurants, but rather a curated selection of the places I like to go to eat, that offer quality products and that I am sharing with you in the hopes that you will enjoy them too. The following list does not follow any particular other or preference, it is a selection of places you might enjoy a good meal at, while visiting Roatán.

Let's get started shall we?

Enjoy!

The Sunken Fish

Then sunken fish is what I would probably describe as one of Roatán's "hidden gems". Located in Sandy Bay, at Tranquil Seas Resort, this restaurant offers not only a breathtaking view, but also some very succulent options for all meal times. I would most definitely recommend to go for breakfast, their menu selection is truly exquisite. Great portions, reasonable prices and nice service.

They offer credit card payment options and are open every day until 9:00pm.
*Fair warning, their kitchen closes a bit before the closing time*

The "chilaquiles"

A delicious & good looking "Latte"

One of their fresh juices

One of their signature burgers

Cafe 314

Whether you are looking for a nice breakfast, to satisfy a sweet tooth craving, a coffee, a refreshing kombucha or tea, or you are a traveling, working nomad, or simply looking for a nice, quiet place with some A/C: you have found the place, I give you: Cafe 314. Offering  you a nice little establishment where you can have a quiet morning while you enjoy a nice breakfast, a great coffee, or it can be you go to spot for a nice refreshing beverage and get some quick work done, or simply to enjoy life and have one of the best cinnamon rolls on the island.

They offer credit card payment options, and are open until 6:00pm most days.

Their "omelette"

Iced "chai" & Cinnamon roll

Kombucha & Ham and Cheese bagel.

Bean Crazy

With locations in West End and West Bay, "Bean Crazy" is a great option for breakfast. They offer a wide variety of options to select from their menu, from traditional "local" dishes, to more international options. Their coffee is great and they even offer colorful and artful bags of ground and bean coffee for you to take as a great souvenir. They also offer a great selection of desserts to satisfy that sweet tooth of yours.
They also offer lunch and early dinner, as they close by 5:00pm.
They offer credit card payment options and they have A/C in both locations, making them a preferred spot for a lot of people. In west End you will find them on the main road, right under the Tucan Hotel, and in West Bay, you will find them in the old West Bay Colonial Hotel restaurant spot, visible while passing by, right by the main road.

Mocca for the soul

Sandwich
"Half moon Bay" Sandwich. My favorite to order.

Mila Del Mar

Located on the second floor of the renovated "The Beach House" boutique hotel, right at the turn of the roundabout on the entrance to West End. Mila Del Mar is one of the first spots you will most likely miss. Even though it has a great location, must people offend pass this place by without even noticing it's existence. Well I am here to tell you, you are definitely missing out. Offering a great menu with a range of international options, with excellent pairings from the drinks menu, MDM is a must if you are in the area.

Definitely a great option for breakfast or dinner and also for a good brunch on Sunday's

A little on the pricier side, however the experience will be worth it. Great food, great view of half moon bay you can enjoy while also enjoying your meal or cocktail.

*Fair warning. This place does not accept cash payments, only credit cards*

Las Verandas Resort

Located within Pristine Bay in the French Harbour area, near the airport. This could be a nice initial bite to your Roatán culinary experience. This place offers a nice scenic view of the great corral reef barrier, nice pools and in general a nice place to hang out at. If you are into golf, this place has a world renowned 18 hole golf course, where you can practice your swings before or after a nice meal.

I would mostly recommend this place for lunch. It is also great for families and groups of friends to spend the day at.

Day passes are usually required, however, visits to the restaurant are usually allowed. You will be prompted through a short security check at the entrance.

"FettuccineAlfredo"

Ceviche

Piña Colada

Fish Taco Platter

Shrimp Tacos & Nachos

Honorable Mention / Hydration Break

You would think getting a fresh coconut / coconut water would be easy on the island, but you might be wrong. If you are ever craving or in desperate need some good ol' electrolytes, and you are in the West End area, please pay a visit to a local men selling them right at the round about, right next to The Beach House hotel. Not only will he give you the much need hydration you are looking for, but he sells paintings of local scenery and portraits, that would make an excellent souvenir.

He is also one of the nicest people you will encounter during your trip.

Alright, hydration break over!

On to the next one!

Seawiches

Located in west end, this place is powerful combination a fresh food, great drinks and amazing music /atmosphere. A little spot on the main strip of West End road, Seawiches offers not only fresh food options for all to enjoy, but also vegan and vegetarian options that you may not be able to find anywhere else around the area.

Stop by for a late-ish dinner (be warned, kitchen closes early), and stay for some great drinks and later get ready to move your feet and body to some great beats by local DJ's and sometimes guest DJ's from abroad.

A great place for all meal times, but I would definitely recommend for a younger crowd looking for great food and great vibes. Best during sunset, dinner and weekends for the fun.

This place offers two sitting areas. Inside with air conditioning or outside in the balcony to enjoy a great sunset.

Falafel Wrap

Pakoras

Espresso Martini

"Catch of the day" Tacos

Paloma

Margaritas

Another kind of Margarita

Tequila Jack's

Located at Brisas Del Mar Resort, right at the end of the West End road strip, this restaurant has plenty to offer. Great menu, great atmosphere and service. Great for all (except children), this place offers live music almost everyday (on or around sunset or after), a solid menu curated for all palates and great drinks.
*Be warned, sometimes the music does get too loud and you won't be able to talk to one another comfortably*

Great for all meal times, but definitely best for dinner and drinks. Here you might meet some new and interesting friends and characters from the island, listen to some of the best local bands and definitely stop by on Fridays for bingo night.

The pool is a welcome sight, which you are welcome to use for a day pass price or a certain consumption at the restaurant. The place has a rooftop bar that is only open for special events, so if you happen to be there during one, definitely head up there to watch the sunset.
*A cover is usually paid during  those special events*

One of the best spots to catch the sunset for sure!

My Favorite Fish Tacos

Fish Tacos & Aperol Spritz. Insider tip: get the fried fish version.

Piña Colada

Chicken Sandwich

Chickpea Salad + Tostones (ordered Separately)

Bruschetta

Yes, Fish Tacos again, with Tostones. Can you tell I'm obssesed?

Dragon Fly

If you are craving sushi, look no further. Dragon Fly has some of the best sushi rolls on the island. Offering a great selection of curated fusion rolls in two locations, one in Sandy Bay, in coral Stone Plaza and another in French Harbour, Dragon Fly is a great option if you are looking for a great Asian Fusion restaurant on the island.

Definitely best for early dinner plans.

La Cevicheria

A definite must! La cevicheria is one of my favorite restaurants on the island and a place you simply must visit. In their brand new location in Sandy Bay, the whole culinary experience is now even better, expanding it to a whole new level. Offering a great selection of fresh, mixed ceviches that are guaranteed to please every single palate. But wait, it doesn't stop there. The place also offers a varied menu of great selections of "local" Honduran and regional food that will simply make your taste buds explode with delight.

Great for Late lunch (they open after 1:00pm) and splendid for dinner plans.
Great for friend groups and family friendly.

Fashion Week Honduras Day 2 #BCFWH17

The first day of Fashion Week Honduras '17 started off with a bang!, and day two was only the continuation of the pyrotechnics. On Thursday September 28th, the shows kept going with great steadiness. The expectations were high and the reception welcoming. This second day was a kaleidoscopical array of fashion, passing on from one designer to the other. There were to segments for this day, one in the afternoon and the main event in the evening.  Let's take a look!
